Socialization isn't just dog to dog interactions. Socialization is crucial for a dog to understand the world around him with all 5 senses. Before a puppy reaches 16 weeks of age, it's important to allow them to explore the word of sound, taste, touch, sight and smell. If they don't get that opportunity, fear and anxiety can develop. Often, rescue dogs lack socialization due to many different factors. But that doesn't mean they can't be socialized. Most dogs can be socialized with the right techniques. My socialization checklist will help you determine which senses your dog may need some focus. Some of the items on the list may not apply to you, so I recommend you go through as many as you can to determine where the deficiencies lie. Once identified, let's work together to help your dog become more socialized to the world around him!
